Eurovision Song Contest Basel
The 69th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest took place in Basel, Switzerland. Under the theme “Welcome Home”, thirty-seven countries participated in this iconic competition. Switzerland had the honour of hosting the event once again, exactly sixty-nine years after the very first Eurovision Song Contest was held in Lugano in 1956.
Stage Design by Wieder Design
The stage design by Florian Wieder was inspired by the majestic Swiss Alps and the country’s rich multilingual culture. Unbranded was proud to bring his vision to life, marking our fourth involvement with Eurovision, after previous editions in Austria (2015), Ukraine (2017), and the Netherlands (2021).
Workshop Hilversum
With a 35-person crew, Unbranded took care of the decor for the main stage, green room, catwalk, interval acts, and custom props for participating delegations. For this edition, special props were created for Malta, Denmark, and Azerbaijan. Everything was fabricated in-house at our workshop in Hilversum, including 350 m² of sculpted mountains up to 8 metres high, over 2,000 linear metres of metal profiles for grids, and 3,000 m² of carpet. The stage finish covered 380 m², and the green room, with a footprint of 460 m², reached up to 7.65 metres in height.
Scenic elements were transported to Basel using 9 road trains and 12 trailers. On-site at St. Jakobshalle, a 20-person team assembled the entire set over the course of 12 days. The project required three months of pre-production, followed by three weeks of on-site maintenance and rehearsals, and culminating in one spectacular show week.
With a live audience of 6,500 and a global viewership of over 170 million people across 37 countries, Eurovision 2025 was a monumental event. One of the technical highlights was a sliding mountain feature that enabled different visual transformations throughout the show, a testament to the dynamic and flexible scenic design.
Behind every big stage is a team of makers. We’re proud to have built the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 stage, a project that demanded precision, scale, and true collaboration.
In our latest video, our colleagues Antoine and Edwin take you behind the scenes: from the first elements crafted in the workshop to the final setup in Basel. From start to finish, it’s a journey shaped by craftsmanship, skilled hands, and shared passion.
